Liesl Guarantee — terms of use and scope of coverage
Scope
Incidents during bookings made through the Liesl app are fortunately rare. The Liesl Guarantee provides pet owners and pet sitters with additional protection in the event of unforeseen incidents during a valid booking confirmed through the Liesl app. The guarantee applies subsidiarily — meaning only if the damage is not covered by an existing insurance policy (e.g., liability insurance or pet insurance). The maximum coverage is CHF 3,000 per incident (CHF 6,000.- for dog sitters with Liesl Club subscription).
What is covered?
A. Veterinary costs
Veterinary costs for treating an injury to the pet being cared for that occurred during a care service booked through Liesl.
Coverage applies only to medically necessary treatments carried out within 30 days after the incident.
Requirement: written veterinary diagnosis and invoice.
B. Liability-like claims (subsidiary)
If the sitter is held legally liable by third parties for:
injuries caused by the supervised pet (e.g., bite injuries)
damage to third-party property
Requirements for coverage
The booking must have been paid and confirmed through the Liesl app before the incident occurred.
A damage report with supporting evidence (especially photos and invoices) must be provided.
Liesl must be informed in writing within 48 hours after the incident.
The case must first be reported to the pet owner’s and/or sitter’s insurance companies — and a written coverage rejection must be provided.
The case must not fall under excluded damage events (see below).
In addition, both the pet owner and the sitter must have complied with the terms of the booking and fulfilled their duty of care.
What is excluded?
Damage, illness, or injuries resulting from incidents outside a care service booked through the Liesl app or when no valid booking exists.
Incidents caused by intentional or grossly negligent behavior, for example violations of laws, regulations (especially animal welfare laws), or fundamental duty-of-care rules (e.g., walking a dog without a leash where required).
Damage, illness, or injuries that:
already existed before the booking (pre-existing condition)
could have been prevented (e.g., through vaccination)
are breed-specific (e.g., hip dysplasia in German Shepherds)
Damage to the sitter’s own animals or to pets not covered by a valid Liesl booking.
Damage to personal property of the pet owner or sitter (including accommodation, car, smartphone, etc.).
Travel expenses, loss of income, or non-material damages (e.g., emotional distress).
Treatment costs for illnesses such as gastrointestinal issues, allergies, parasites, stress reactions, etc.
Principle of subsidiarity
The Liesl Guarantee applies strictly on a subsidiary basis. This means:
All potentially responsible insurance policies (liability insurance, pet insurance, etc.) of the pet owner and/or sitter must be contacted first. Only if a written rejection from those insurers is provided can the Liesl Guarantee be used.
Claims process
Document the incident: photos, invoices, description.
Contact Liesl within 48 hours via the form or support@liesl.ch.
Contact insurance providers with a formal claim.
Obtain written rejection from the insurer.
Review by Liesl: processing time up to 14 days.
Reimbursement: up to CHF 3,000 (CHF 6,000.- for dog sitters with Liesl Club subscription) if all conditions are met.
No third-party rights
This guarantee applies exclusively to pet owners and pet sitters with a valid Liesl booking. Third parties — including roommates, family members, or visitors — have no rights under this guarantee.
Right of recourse
After a payout, Liesl is entitled to seek recourse against the liable party or their insurer. Claimants agree to support Liesl in enforcing such claims.
Additional notes
No replacement of insurance obligations: the Liesl Guarantee does not replace any legally required liability insurance.
Voluntary goodwill service: the Liesl Guarantee is not an insurance policy and does not create a legal entitlement. It is a voluntary goodwill service intended to build trust for bookings made via the Liesl platform and app.
Forfeiture: the guarantee becomes void in the event of false information, fraudulent behavior, or violations of the Liesl platform’s terms of use.
Supplementary application of the GTC: for all matters not covered by this guarantee, the currently valid General Terms and Conditions (GTC) of Liesl AG apply.
